Chennai, India – The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) Chennai has released a notification for the engagement of Act Apprentices for the years 2025-2026 under the Apprentices Act-1961. This is a fantastic opportunity for young individuals looking to gain valuable skills and training.

Who Can Apply?
Online applications are invited from eligible candidates, with preference given to those from Tamil Nadu. It's crucial to note that this notification is specifically for apprenticeship training and not for employment. Upon completion of the training, there is no guaranteed employment with ICF or the Railways.
Available Trades and Vacancies:
ICF will be engaging Act Apprentices in various trades, with slots available for both "Freshers" and "Ex-ITI" candidates. The notification provides a detailed breakdown of vacancies by trade and communal categories (UR, OBC, SC, ST, PWBD).

Eligibility Conditions:
Age as of August 11, 2025:
- ITI candidates: Must have completed 15 years and not exceeded 24 years of age.
- Non-ITI candidates: Must have completed 15 years and not exceeded 22 years of age.
- Age Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST candidates, 3 years for OBC candidates, and 10 years for Persons with Disability.
- Minimum Educational Qualification & Training Period:
- Ex-ITI: Generally requires Std X (with a minimum of 50% marks) with Science & Maths (for Fitter, Electrician, Machinist) or just Std X (for Carpenter, Painter, Welder) under the 10+2 system or equivalent, along with a National Trade Certificate from NCVT or SCVT in the notified trade. Training period is 1 year. For Programming and System Administration Assistant, a National Trade Certificate in Information Technology, Computer Operator and Programming Assistant, Database System Assistant, or Software Testing Assistant is required.
- Fitter, Electrician & Machinist: Std X with minimum 50% aggregate marks, with Science & Maths under 10+2 system or equivalent. Training period is 2 years.
- Carpenter & Painter: Std X with minimum 50% aggregate marks under 10+2 system or equivalent. Training period is 2 years.
- Welder: Std X with minimum 50% aggregate marks under 10+2 system or equivalent. Training period is 1 year 3 months.
- MLT (Radiology & Pathology): Std XII examination under 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry & Biology. Training period is 1 year 3 months
- Higher Qualifications: Candidates with higher qualifications like Degrees, Diplomas, or Engineering Degrees are not eligible, except for MLT where the qualification is 12th/HSC.
- Disability: Vacancies are reserved for persons with disabilities, subject to permissible disability in the trade. Detailed categories of disabilities that can apply for engagement are provided for each trade. Applicants must suffer from not less than 40% of the relevant disability to be eligible for reservation. Disability certificates issued by Central/State Government are required.
- Residence: Applicants must be residents of Tamil Nadu or registered with a local Employment Exchange within Tamil Nadu's jurisdiction. Wards of Railway employees are exempt from this condition.
Stipend Rates:
During the apprenticeship, candidates will receive a stipend:
- Freshers - School pass-outs (Class 10th): ₹6000 per month
- Freshers - School pass-outs (Class 12th): ₹7000 per month
- Ex-ITI - National or State certificate holder: ₹7000 per month
There will be a 10% increase in the stipend during the second year of apprenticeship training.
How to Apply:
Applications must be submitted ONLINE only through the ICF web portal: https://pb.icf.gov.in.
- Candidates should read the notification thoroughly before filling out the online application.
- Keep all relevant documents/certificates and a recent passport-size photograph (JPG/JPEG format, not more than 200 KB) ready for upload.
- A processing fee of ₹100/- plus service charges is applicable for candidates other than SC/ST/PwBD/Women. SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates are exempt from the application fee. Fees are non-refundable.
- No physical documents need to be sent to ICF.
- Candidates should generate and print the acknowledgement form after final submission, as it will be required during document verification.
Selection Process:
The merit list will be based on marks obtained in Std X. For COVID Pass candidates in Std X, proof of Std IX mark sheet or Std X Half-yearly mark sheet, signed by the Principal, will be considered. In case of a tie in marks, older candidates will be preferred; if dates of birth are also the same, the candidate who passed Std X earlier will be considered first.
Fresher candidates can choose their preferred trades, and trade allotment will be based on merit and vacancy availability. Ex-ITI candidates will be trained in the trade for which they hold an ITI certificate.
