What Makes JNVs Special?

Established under the National Policy of Education (1986), JNVs are co-educational residential schools fully financed and administered by the Government of India through the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. They provide modern education with a strong emphasis on culture, values, environmental awareness, adventure activities, and physical education.

Here's why JNVs are a preferred choice:

 * Quality Education: Focus on providing good quality modern education to talented children, predominantly from rural areas.

 * Free and Inclusive: Education is absolutely free, covering board, lodging, uniform, and textbooks. A nominal Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi (VVN) of Rs. 600/- per month is collected from students of Classes IX to XII, with exemptions for SC/ST, Divyang students, all girl students, and BPL families. Wards of Government employees (other than exempted categories) are charged Rs. 1500/- per month or actual Children Education Allowance received, whichever is less (not less than Rs. 600/-).

 * CBSE Affiliation: All JNVs are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

 * Three-Language Formula: Ensuring students attain a reasonable level of competency in three languages.

 * National Integration: A unique migration scheme promotes national integration by having 30% of Class IX students from Hindi-speaking areas spend one academic year in a non-Hindi speaking area and vice versa.

 * Widespread Presence: Currently, 653 JNVs are functional across 27 States and 8 Union Territories (excluding Tamil Nadu).

Important Dates to Remember (2026-27):

 * Last Date of Registration: Tuesday, 23rd September 2025.

 * Date of Selection Test: Saturday, 07th February 2026.

 * Correction Window: Will be open for two days after the last date of application submission.

Are You Eligible?

To be eligible for the Class IX Lateral Entry Selection Test, candidates must meet the following criteria:

 * Date of Birth: Your date of birth must be between 1st May 2011 and 31st July 2013 (both days inclusive). This applies to all categories, including SC/ST.

 * Current Study: You must be a bonafide resident of the district concerned and be studying Class VIII during the academic session 2025-26 in a Government/Government recognized school. The school must be located in the same district where the JNV is functioning and where admission is sought.

 * Indian Nationals: Only Indian Nationals studying Class VIII in India in the concerned district are eligible to apply.

 * Not Eligible if: You have already passed Class VIII in previous academic sessions, your date of birth is outside the specified range, your district of study and residence are different, your school of study is not government/government recognized, or you have already applied for the lateral entry test in a previous academic session.

The Selection Test:

The selection test will be 2.5 hours long and will be objective-type. It will cover subjects based on the Class VIII syllabus:

 * Subjects: Mathematics, General Science, English, and Hindi.

 * Total Questions: 100 questions, each carrying 1 mark, for a total of 100 marks.

 * No Negative Marking: There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers.

 * Medium: The question paper will be bilingual (English and Hindi).

 * OMR Sheet: Answers must be marked on a separate OMR sheet using only a Blue/Black Ball Point Pen.

Important Note on Admission:

Provisional selection in the test does not guarantee admission. Final admission is subject to verification of all original certificates and eligibility criteria as per NVS norms. Do not apply for a Transfer Certificate (TC) from your current school until your admission is confirmed by the respective JNV.

This is a golden opportunity to secure a quality education and a bright future. Make sure you meet all the eligibility criteria and apply before the deadline! For more detailed information, please refer to the official prospectus on the NVS website.
