Important Dates and Application Process
The application window is set to open on August 14, 2025, at 11:00 hrs and will close on September 13, 2025, at 23:59 hrs. All applications must be submitted online through the official RRC-ER website. No other form of application will be accepted.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, candidates must meet the following conditions:
- Age: Applicants must be between 15 and 24 years of age as of the cut-off date for applications.
- Age Relaxation: The upper age limit is relaxed for certain categories: 5 years for SC/ST candidates, 3 years for OBC-NCL candidates, and 10 years for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). Ex-servicemen (Ex-SM) are also eligible for an additional relaxation of 10 years, in addition to their service period plus three years, provided they have completed a minimum of six months of continuous service.
- Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the 10th-grade examination (or its equivalent) with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks and hold a National Trade Certificate in a notified trade from NCVT/SCVT.
- Medical Fitness: Applicants must satisfy the minimum physical fitness standards as per the Apprentices Act, 1961. A medical certificate from a government-authorized doctor is required during document verification.
Application Fees
The application fee is ₹100, which is non-refundable. However, SC, ST, PwBD, and women candidates are exempt from paying this fee. The fee must be paid online using a debit card, credit card, or internet banking.
Selection Process
The selection of candidates will be based on a merit list, which will be prepared based on the information provided in the online application. The merit list will be created by calculating the average of the percentage marks obtained in both the 10th-grade and ITI examinations, giving equal weight to each. For example, if a candidate scored 80.58% in Matriculation and 91.68% in ITI, their selection marks would be calculated as ½ [80.58 + 91.68] = 86.13.
In the event of a tie in marks, the older candidate will be given preference. If the birth dates are also the same, the candidate who passed the matriculation exam earlier will be considered first.
A select list of candidates, 1.5 times the number of notified training slots, will be called for document verification.

Reservation
Reservation policies for SC/ST/OBC/ESM/EWS/PwBD candidates will be applied according to the relevant rules set by the Railway Board. PwBD and ESM training slots are part of the total slots and are not filled externally. Candidates selected under these categories will be placed in their appropriate community (UR/SC/ST/OBC). Unfilled ESM slots will be given to other candidates.
This is an apprenticeship training program, not a guarantee of employment. However, 20% of the vacancies in Level-1 recruitment will be filled with preference given to Course Completed Act Apprentices who have been trained in railway establishments.
