The District Common Examination Board (DCEB), Anantapur has released the official Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) and Formative Assessment-II (FA Tool-II) guidelines for classes 3, 4, and 5 for the academic year 2025-26.
These guidelines aim to assess students’ learning levels in Telugu, English, and Mathematics and help teachers track their progress using OMR-based evaluation sheets.
What is TaRL (Teaching at the Right Level)?
- TaRL is a student-centered learning approach developed to ensure that every child attains foundational skills in reading and arithmetic.
- It divides students into five learning levels based on their performance:
1. Beginner Level
2. Letter Level
3. Word Level
4. Paragraph Level
5. Story Level
- Each student’s level is recorded through the FA Tool-II (Written Work) and corresponding OMR sheets.
FA Tool–II Assessment Structure
The FA-II (Formative Assessment) includes Written Work (Tool-2) in:
- Telugu Language
- English Language
- Mathematics
Telugu / English Assessment:
Step 1: Paragraph reading
Step 2: Word reading
Step 3: Letter recognition
Step 4: Beginner Level
Step 5: Story reading
- Fluency, accuracy, and comprehension are key indicators.
- Each student’s level is marked 1–5 on the OMR sheet.
Mathematics Assessment:
Math evaluation includes:
1. Number Recognition
2. Addition
3. Subtraction
4. Multiplication
5. Division
- Each correctly completed operation progresses the student to the next level.
- The final level is recorded on the OMR sheet.
OMR Sheet Instructions
- Levels are graded 0–5 (0 is not applicable).
- Only one bubble should be shaded per student.
- Entries are to be recorded both on the OMR Sheet and the School Learning Progress Sheet.
- Step-by-step evaluation ensures that each child’s current learning level is captured accurately.
Implementation Guidelines
- Assessments will be conducted for Classes III, IV, and V during FA-II 2025–26.
- The TaRL tools will be used for both Baseline, Midline, and Endline Assessments.
- Subject teachers must ensure one-to-one oral and written assessments for correct evaluation.
- EVS (Environmental Studies) is not included under TaRL FA-II tools.
Important Notes
Baseline: Samples 1 & 2
Midline: Samples 3 & 4
Endline: Samples 1–4 (combined)
The assessment aims to identify each student’s foundational literacy and numeracy level and guide remedial instruction accordingly.
