What is an Act Apprentice in Indian Railways?
Act Apprentices are trainees undergoing technical training under the Apprentices Act, 1961. They are NOT Railway employees, but after successful training, they receive a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC), which gives preference in future Railway Level-1 jobs

Eligibility Criteria for SER Act Apprentice 2025-26
- Minimum Age: 15 years
- Maximum Age: 24 years
- Upper Age Relaxation
- SC/ST: +5 years
- OBC: +3 years
- PWD: +10 years
- Ex-Servicemen: Service period + 3 years (must have 6 months continuous service)
2. Educational Qualification:
Candidates must have:
1. Matriculation / 10th Class (10+2 System)
Minimum 50% aggregate marks (excluding additional subjects)
2. ITI Certificate
- In the relevant trade
- Issued by: NCVT/SCVT
3. Medical Fitness Requirements
As per the Apprentices Act, 1961. A government-authorised Railway Medical Officer should certify:
- Free from infectious diseases
- Minimum height: 137 cm
- Minimum weight: 25.4 kg
- Chest expansion: 3.8 cm
- Vision: Normal (color vision not mandatory)
- No hearing disability
- A detailed medical form (Annexure-II) is part of the notification.

Selection Process for SER Apprentice Recruitment 2025-26
1.Merit-Based Selection
Selection will be strictly on the basis of percentage of marks in 10th standard, with minimum 50% marks.
2 Tie-Breaking Rules:
If two candidates have the same marks:
1. Candidate older in age will be preferred
2. If age is also same, the one who passed 10th earlier will be preferred
3. Document Verification:
Shortlisted candidates (1.5 times the vacancies) must appear with original documents.
4. Medical Examination
Must pass medical standards as per Annexure-II.
Note:
- Apprentice training does not guarantee a job in Indian Railways
- However, 20% of Level-1 vacancies are reserved for Course Completed Act Apprentices
