India Post GDS Vacancy 2026
The notification contains the vacancy format in Annexure-I. Division-wise vacancy details are made available through the GDS Online Engagement Portal. The vacancy position includes community-wise categories such as UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwBD categories.

GDS Posts Available
1. Branch Postmaster – BPM
The Branch Postmaster is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the Branch Post Office and India Post Payments Bank-related operations as prescribed by the Department.
- Managing day-to-day postal operations.

- Marketing and promotion of postal products and services.
- Customer Service Centre-related activities.
- Mail conveyance and delivery in single-handed Branch Offices.

A selected BPM has to arrange accommodation for running the Branch Post Office at his/her own cost and is required to reside in the post village where the Branch Office is functioning.
2. Assistant Branch Postmaster – ABPM

- IPPB deposits, payments and other transactions.
- Assisting the BPM in postal operations.

Dak Sevaks may be engaged in Post Offices, Sorting Offices, Mail Offices, Transit Mail Offices, Delivery Centres and other offices of the Department.

GDS Service Conditions
GDS employees should understand that they are not regular employees of the Central Government. Their service conditions, emoluments and entitlements are governed by the Gramin Dak Sevaks (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020, as revised from time to time.
GDS personnel are holders of Civil Posts outside the regular Civil Services and generally serve in rural areas.
The normal engagement requires a minimum of four hours and a maximum of five hours of work per day, and a GDS cannot be retained as a Sevak beyond the age of 65 years.
GDS Salary / TRCA 2026
GDS personnel receive emoluments in the form of Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA). The notification states that TRCA carries an annual increase of 3%, subject to the applicable conditions under the GDS Rules. Dearness Allowance and other applicable benefits are also provided.

Educational Qualification
The essential educational qualification is a Secondary School Examination / Class 10 pass certificate from a recognised Board of School Education in India. Candidates must have passing marks in Mathematics and English.

Reservation Benefits
Reservation provisions are applicable to eligible SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwBD candidates according to the rules and conditions specified in the notification.

Important Rule About Division Selection

GDS Selection Process 2026

GDS Merit List Tie-Breaking

What Happens After Document Verification?

Failure to complete the required formalities or failure to join within the stipulated period can result in cancellation of candidature and the post may be offered to the next candidate.
GDS DigiLocker / API Setu Verification
The Department may verify Class 10 educational documents through API Setu, DigiLocker or the official website of the concerned educational Board, wherever the facility is available.
