English Typing Test

The typing test is a qualifying stage. Candidates must demonstrate a minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute in English on a computer.

The typing test is conducted for 10 minutes. The criterion of characters with spaces is used for calculating typing speed and the permissible mistakes are limited to 3% of the total words typed.

English Shorthand Test

Senior Personal Assistant

For Senior Personal Assistant, shorthand dictation is conducted at 110 words per minute. A passage of 550 words is dictated in 5 minutes and candidates get 45 minutes for transcription on a computer.

Candidates are given an opportunity to appear in two shorthand dictation transcription tests, and the better of the two performances is considered.

Personal Assistant

For Personal Assistant, shorthand dictation is conducted at 100 words per minute. A passage of 500 words is dictated in 5 minutes and candidates get 45 minutes for transcription.

Two shorthand dictation transcription opportunities are provided and the best performance is considered.

Main Descriptive Examination

The Main Examination is an English language descriptive examination carrying 100 marks with a duration of 120 minutes.

The examination consists of:

  • Essay: 250 words – 40 Marks
  • Letter Writing: 15 Marks
  • Grammar & Comprehension Passage: 25 Marks
  • Translation: Hindi to English – 10 Marks
  • Translation: English to Hindi – 10 Marks

The minimum qualifying marks in the Main Examination are 50% for General category candidates and 45% for Reserved category candidates including PwBD.

Interview

The Interview carries a maximum of 15 marks. There is no minimum qualifying mark prescribed for the interview.

Final Merit List

The final selection/merit list will be prepared by adding the marks obtained in:

  • English Shorthand Test
  • Main (Descriptive) Examination
  • Interview

The English Typing Test is qualifying in nature and its marks are not added to the final merit score.
