For Rural ASHA Positions (Community Process Guidelines - 2013):

- Support System: Should have family and social support to dedicate time to tasks.
- Proof of Residence: Residential proof, preferably Aadhar Card, is required.
- Representation: Adequate representation from disadvantaged groups is encouraged.
- Norm: Generally, one ASHA for every 1000 (+ or - 10%) population.
For Urban ASHA Positions (Guidelines for ASHAS and MAS in Urban Context - 2014):
- Gender & Residence: Must be a woman resident of the "slum/vulnerable clusters" and belong to the specific vulnerable group identified by the District Health Society.
- Marital Status & Age: Preferably 'Married/Widow/Divorced/Separated' and in the age group of 25 to 45 years. (Age criteria can be relaxed if no suitable candidate from the vulnerable group is available).
- Education: Minimum 10th Class Pass. Preference will be given to candidates with Class XII if interested and willing. (Educational criteria can be relaxed if no suitable candidate from the vulnerable group is available).
- Skills: Effective communication skills with language fluency of the area, leadership qualities, and ability to reach out to the community.
- Support System: Should have family and social support to dedicate time to tasks. Proof of Residence: Residential proof, preferably Aadhar Card, is required.
- Representation: Adequate representation from disadvantaged groups is encouraged.
- Norm: Generally, one ASHA for every 2500 (+ or - 10%) population.
Application Process and Important Dates:
The recruitment process involves nomination by the Village Health and Sanitation Committee (VHSNC) for rural areas and Urban Health and Sanitation Committee (UHSNC) for urban areas. These committees will nominate three eligible candidates for each vacancy, whose names will then be forwarded to the concerned Medical Officer. The District Health Society will make the final selection.
