The Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL), a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, has announced a provisional advertisement for the engagement of Junior Technicians on a fixed-tenure contract basis at its Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF) unit in Avadi, Chennai. Positions Available:
HVF is looking to fill a significant number of Junior Technician positions across various trades. Here's a glimpse of some of the roles and their total vacancies:
- Junior Technician (Contract) (Blacksmith): 17 vacancies
- Junior Technician (Contract) (Carpenter): 4 vacancies
- Junior Technician (Contract) (Electrician): 186 vacancies
- Junior Technician (Contract) (Fitter General): 668 vacancies
- Junior Technician (Contract) (Machinist): 430 vacancies
- Junior Technician (Contract) (Welder): 200 vacancies
In total, there are 1850 vacancies across all Junior Technician (Contract) posts. The Competent Authority reserves the right to revise the number of advertised vacancies at any time.
Eligibility Criteria: Do You Qualify?
Educational Qualification & Experience:
Most Junior Technician roles require an NAC/NTC (National Apprenticeship Certificate/National Trade Certificate) in the relevant trade. For some posts like "Operator Material Handling Equipment" and "Rigger," a Class X equivalent Board Examination along with relevant experience is also accepted. For "Sand & Shot Blaster," Class X equivalent with 2 years of experience in shot blasting in an industry is required. NTC/NAC refers to certificates issued by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT).
Age Limit:
The upper age limit for all posts is 35 years as on the closing date of the online application. Relaxations are provided:
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates: 3 years relaxation
- SC/ST candidates: 5 years relaxation
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): 10 years relaxation (plus additional relaxation for SC/ST/OBC)
- Ex-Apprentice Trainees: Age relaxation to the extent of their training period
- Ex-servicemen: Upper age limit shall not exceed 35 years + 3 years after deducting service period (with additional relaxation for SC/ST/OBC)
- Candidates with relevant work experience: Up to a maximum of 7 years, with one year relaxation for every completed year of relevant post-qualification experience.
The maximum age limit for any category shall not exceed 55 years.
Remuneration and Benefits:
Selected Junior Technicians (Contract) will receive a basic pay of Rs. 21,000/- per month, along with Industrial Dearness Allowance (IDA) and a Special Allowance of 5% of Basic Pay. An annual increment of 3% on basic pay will be provided upon successful completion of the previous tenure. Other benefits include:
- Rs. 3000 per month for meeting various requirements like medical, accident insurance, conveyance, and telephone.
- Provident Fund contributions as per EPF Rules.
- Gratuity on successful completion of tenure (after more than 1 year).
- Ex-gratia payment of Rs. 10 lakhs in case of accidental death during employment.
- Acccommodation may be provided subject to availability.
Selection Procedure:
The selection process involves shortlisting based on educational qualifications and a Trade Test.
- Shortlisting: Preference will be given to HVF Ex-Trade Apprentices, then OFB Ex-Trade Apprentices, and finally other NTC/NAC holders. Shortlisting will be based on the date/year of passing NAC (and then marks within NAC). For other NTC/NAC holders, marks obtained in the final examination of NTC/NAC will be considered. Candidates need a minimum of 65% marks in the required educational qualification (relaxable for SC/ST/PwBD/OBC).
- Trade Test (Practical): This test is qualifying in nature, meaning it will be marked as FIT/UNFIT, with no marks assigned. Candidates who do not qualify will not be considered further. The Trade Test will be conducted only at Heavy Vehicles Factory, Avadi.
- Document Verification: Candidates will undergo document verification before the Trade Test.
The final merit list will be prepared based on the shortlisting criteria mentioned above.

A non-refundable application fee of Rs. 300/- is required. SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-SM/Female candidates are exempted from payment of application fees.

This engagement is purely temporary and contractual, and does not confer any right to claim regular or permanent employment in HVF. The initial contract period is for one year, extendable for three more years based on performance and company requirements.
