Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the SSC Stenographer 2025 examination, candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:

1. Nationality/Citizenship

A candidate must be:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, or specified East African countries with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Note: Candidates from Nepal, Bhutan, or other specified countries require a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

2. Age Limit (as on August 1, 2025)

  • Stenographer Grade 'C': 18 to 30 years (born between August 2, 1995, and August 1, 2007).
  • Stenographer Grade 'D': 18 to 27 years (born between August 2, 1998, and August 1, 2007).

3. Educational Qualification (as on August 1, 2025)

Candidates must have passed the 12th standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University. Degrees/diplomas/certificates from Open and Distance Learning modes are acceptable, provided they are approved by the Distance Education Bureau, University Grants Commission.

4. Stenography Skills

Only candidates with proficiency in stenography are eligible to apply.

Reservation and Suitability for Persons with Disabilities (PwBD)

The examination provides reservations for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, ESM, and PwBD candidates as per government norms. The posts of Stenographer Grade 'C' and 'D' are suitable for candidates with the following benchmark disabilities:

Special Requirements for Border Roads Organization (BRO)

For candidates applying for Stenographer Grade 'D' in BRO:

  • Only male candidates are eligible.
  • Candidates must meet Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Physical Standards, and Medical Standards as outlined in Annexure-XV of the notification.
  • PET: Candidates must complete a one-mile run within 10 minutes.
  • Physical Standards: Vary by region (e.g., minimum height, chest, and weight requirements).
  • Medical Standards: Candidates must be free from conditions like impaired constitution, defective vision, or chronic diseases. Detailed medical examinations will be conducted by a Medical Board.

Failure to meet these standards will result in cancellation of candidature, and no re-allocation will be permitted.

Application Process

  1. Online Application: Submit applications through the SSC website (https://ssc.gov.in) between June 6 and June 26, 2025.
  2. Application Fee: Pay the fee online by June 27, 2025 (23:00 hours).
  3. Form Correction: Use the correction window from July 1 to July 2, 2025, to make changes.
  4. Document Verification: Candidates must provide original certificates (e.g., 12th mark sheets, caste/category certificates) during document verification.

Provision for Scribes and Compensatory Time

  • Candidates with Blindness, Locomotor Disability (Both Arms affected), or Cerebral Palsy can avail a scribe by uploading the requisite certificate (Annexure-XI) during application.
  • Other PwBD candidates with physical limitations in writing can also request a scribe with a certificate from a Chief Medical Officer (Annexure-IA).
  • Compensatory Time: 20 minutes per hour of examination for candidates eligible for a scribe.
  • Candidates opting for their own scribe must ensure the scribe is Aadhaar-authenticated and meets eligibility criteria (e.g., qualification one step below the candidate).
