Objective of APTET
To ensure national standards and benchmark of teacher quality, APTET is mandatory for:
- All aspirants who wish to become teachers for Classes I to VIII in Government, ZP, MPP, Municipal, Recognized Aided and Unaided Schools.
- In-service teachers with more than 5 years of service remaining before retirement must also qualify in TET (as per Supreme Court Judgment in Civil Appeal No.1385/2025).
Eligibility Criteria for APTET 2025
Paper 1A (Classes I–V – Regular Schools)
Qualification (After 2011):
- Intermediate/Senior Secondary with 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/BC/PwBD) and
- Two-year D.El.Ed or Four-year B.El.Ed or Two-year Diploma in Special Education
Qualification (Before 2011):
- Intermediate/Senior Secondary with 45% marks (40% for SC/ST/BC/PwBD) and 2-Year D.El.Ed as per NCTE norms (2002, 2007)
Paper 1B (Classes I–V – Special Education)
- Intermediate/Senior Secondary with 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/BC/PwBD) and 2-Year D.Ed in Special Education or
- PG Diploma in Community-Based Rehabilitation (PGDCBR) with 6-months CwSN Certificate or
- Any RCI-approved qualification
Paper 2A (Classes VI–VIII – Regular Schools)
Qualification (After 2011):
- Graduation with 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/BC/PwBD) and B.Ed / B.Ed (Special Education)
- Four-year B.A.Ed / B.Sc.Ed / B.El.Ed or 3-year Integrated B.Ed–M.Ed with PG (55% for OC, 50% for reserved)
Before 2011: Graduation with 45% marks (40% for reserved) and B.Ed as per NCTE 2002/2007 norms.
Paper 2B (Classes VI–VIII – Special Education)
- Graduation or Post Graduation with 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/BC/PwBD) and
- B.Ed (Special Education) or B.Ed (General) with Diploma or PG Diploma in Special Education
- Any equivalent RCI-approved qualification

APTET Certificate and Validity
The APTET Certificate is valid for lifetime as per NCTE guidelines dated 09.06.2021. Candidates can appear multiple times to improve their score. Certificates will be issued digitally via DigiLocker.
Weightage for Recruitment
APTET scores carry 20% weightage in the Teacher Recruitment Test (TRT). The remaining 80% weightage is given for the TRT written exam.
